I’m not sure how I ended up on the inc.com website today? I guess it really doesn’t matter. The article had a great title
“The 20 Most Powerful Words in Business” I’ll save you the time discovering what the misguided statement is
“When working in a team or group environment, I will place the interests of the enterprise above my personal interests.”
It sounds good at first, but lets just do a couple of tests. I want a drink of water, no put the interests of the enterprise first, I’ll just go thirsty. I want to go home and see my family, no put the interests of the enterprise first, you will stay at work, maybe sleep at work.
What companies need to do is align the personal interests of the employees with company interests. This is where the power comes from. I have seen this time and time again. I have personally modified work environments to reflect this strategy with amazing results. Every time productivity is doubled and profits climb significantly. In one instance it increased profit by over $1,000,000 annually.
