Every time I hear a company complain about not being able to find enough talent there is a sentence or two missing from the thought. Here is the way the conversation should really go. We don’t have enough money, or we are not willing to pay to attract the talent we need. Or we are not willing to be flexible or creative enough to figure out how to get the talent we need.
This is a basic discussion about capitalism. Talent goes where the environment is best.
There is an article in the Wall Street Journal yesterday that talks about companies overlooking older workers. There is one paragraph that mentions older works with more experience are getting paid more and harder to lure away. It’s true I want more money than my younger counterparts and I am also not willing to work for some companies because they do not how to treat employees very well.
